Straighten Your Smile with Modern Metal Braces

Durable, effective and cost-efficient – the gold standard for many orthodontic treatments.

What Are Metal Braces and Why Choose Us?

  • Metal fixed braces use metal brackets bonded to the teeth, linked by a wire
which is periodically adjusted to guide the teeth into alignment.
  • Proven, highly effective for a broad range of tooth-alignment and bite issues –
    even complex ones.
  • Very reliable and durable: metal brackets and wires tolerate the forces of tooth
movement without as much risk of breakage or failure.
  • Fully supervised care: your treatment will be Consultant or Specialist
    Orthodontist
  • Transparent pricing and financing options: fixed metal braces from £2,200 for
    3–6 months in simple cases.
  • Often a more affordable route than some more aesthetic systems (clear or
lingual), especially when treating robust orthodontic issues.

Our Metal Braces Treatment Process

Step 1 – Free Consultation
We’ll review your dental history, conduct a 3D scan or impressions, assess your bite
and alignment and discuss your objectives.
Step 2 – Planning & Bracket Bonding
Your expert orthodontist will create a customised plan. Brackets are bonded to your
teeth with a wire placed and initial adjustment made.

Step 3 – Adjustment Visits & Monitoring
Every 4-8 weeks you’ll return for adjustment of the wires, monitoring of progress and
any modulus or elastic bands required.

Step 4 – Debonding, Retention & Whitening
Once treatment is done, brackets and wires are removed, teeth cleaned/polished and
retainers fitted and free teeth whitening to maintain your new smile

Is It Suitable for You?

Metal braces are suitable for:

  • Crowded or crooked teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Over-bite, under-bite, cross-bite or other bite alignment issues
  • Relapse after previous orthodontic treatment
  • Metal braces are used for more complex treatments

Ideal candidate if you:

  • Are comfortable with fixed brackets and wires
  • Increased oral hygiene around brackets
  • Understand you’ll have some aesthetic impact

Things to consider:

  • Metal braces are more visible than clear aligners or ceramic/lingual systems
  • Some dietary restrictions may apply, hard, sticky foods may damage brackets
  • You’ll need to stay more diligent with cleaning around brackets and wires

Q: How long will treatment take?
A: It depends on the complexity of your case. Simple cases may take 3-6 months,
while more complex ones can run 12+ months. For example, private UK clinic guides
estimate treatment times for fixed metal braces of around 6-12 months for many
cases.
Q: Will the braces hurt?
A: You may feel pressure or soreness for a few days after each wire adjustment —
this is normal and a sign the teeth are moving. Discomfort is typically mild and
managed with over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods.
Q: What food restrictions are there?
A: With metal braces you should avoid very hard or sticky foods (such as nuts, hard
candy, chewing gum, caramel) that can dislodge brackets or bend wires. Good oral
hygiene is crucial because brackets create extra food‐trapping areas.
Q: Can I still play sports or musical instruments?
A: Yes — you simply need to use the appropriate mouthguard for contact sports, and
your orthodontist can give you guidance for playing wind/woodwind instruments to
minimise irritation from brackets.
Q: What happens after the braces are removed?
A: You’ll receive retainers (fixed and/or removable) to maintain your alignment.
Without retainers, teeth may shift back into previous positions. Retention is a critical
part of long-term success.
Q: Are metal braces right for adults?
A: Absolutely. Many adult patients choose metal braces because they’re highly
effective, even though aesthetic concerns may lead some to prefer ceramic or aligner
options.
